of the five satellite pavilions located in the first completed phase of 2021 World Horticulture Expo site in Yangzhou. Considering the life after the Expo, the design is seeking to explore a new architecture organizational way that is highly flexible, changeable and mixed-use but at the same time allows independence and privacy of each program. The requirement is: during the Expo period, the building should incorporate five programs at different level of publicness and sharing possibility, whereas, after the Expo, each program could be independently rented out to different entities who can maintain their own privacy without sharing any space with one another. This principle does not only apply to indoor space but also the outdoor resources.2021年世界园艺博览会将在在扬州举办，花影园是其一期工程中五个卫星展厅中的一个。考虑到展会后的利用方式，设计探索一种新的空间组成方式，以保持其内部使用功能独立完整的同时，使空间具有可变性。设计要求在展会期间，建筑需容纳五类在不同层级上对公共可达性有要求的功能空间，而展会之后，各功能又能独立运作，保持其私密性。其原则不仅限于室内空间，还包括了室外景观。 Before our team took on the commission, the planning team had made each of the programs one single building - as the common way of solving the binaries of public and private normally does - Building A - visitor and information center, Building B - gallery of rare plants collection and Kadō, Building C - young adult education center, Building D - tea room and cafeteria, Building E - office/management and souvenir store. In this case the historic dilemma between private/public is ever more obvious, never achieve both. But our arrangement is different.&nbsp; We find such a composition of the space that can achieve both: every room’s function is different from the room next one, every room has giant sliding door that can open to different programs, every room has double-side private courtyard and cross ventilation, every program has courtyard and its unique layout, all the corridors are private and serve single program … such architectural operations successfully meet the challenge meanwhile offers many new way of mix-use possibilities from time to time. 设计之初，策划团队用一种寻常解决公共与私密问题的方式，将各功能对应为各自独立的房子，游客中心，珍品植物展厅，青教中新，茶室和管理用房。在此设计中，尝试了一种崭新的空间构成方式来解决不同的私密与公共问题：放个相邻的房间皆为不同的使用功能，每个房间都能通过一扇移门与相邻的房间互通，每个房间的两侧皆有私密的院落，每种功能类型都有一种独特的景观分布。空间的重构很好地解决了使用上的矛盾，带来了新的使用的可能。 city of Gifu, sitting on a tiny irregular shape concrete base in about 80 square meters. Unlike fast-pacing life in major Japanese metropolis, life in the suburban area is peaceful and slow in such a lush nature environment. That is why the client, who runs a family owned international business, seeks here to be the ideal place where she could meet with different people, host private events and mostly importantly, connect with nature. This design is started to rethink relationships among different elements of a home and reprogram them in a fresh manner, to build a more open and liberal life style. It breaks the general awareness of core in a building, which are typically circulation and mechanical parts. In this design, the private and necessary functions are condensed into the center to compose a conceptual minimal house, as we called Moya in Japanese, with bedroom, library, lobby and etc. Meanwhile, various public and open programs are dispersed around the central as a continuous ring of spaces. All parts are leveled at different heights with no direct circulation but connected through the central house. In order to reach another space, the Moya must be used as central circulation core. It establishes a bonding relationship between the elements in the core and around perimeter. The carefully-designed openings are facing different orientations, outlining a picture of nature or city scene, expanding inner space corridors and bringing as much natural light as possible to fill inside. The experience is constantly change when elements including those from outside are always in a dynamic state. As a result, the spatial loop, embraced the central house, Moya, is both continuous and discontinuous, detached and dependent, dynamic and steady. W宅是一座私人住宅兼工作室，位于一块仅占地80平方米的现存不规则场地之上。业主选择这个与自然靠近的宁静之所是想要在此建立一个能作为其开放工作室，举办聚会，与不同人相遇的场所。设计将私密及必要的生活起居功能集中于空间的中心，形成了一个概念上的极小之家，与日本传统空间中的母屋相对应。其他半私密功能围绕中心设置在不同的标高之上，使室内形成一条连续的环形空间，行程类似于缘侧的空间。窗洞向不同的城市场景空间与自然山体开放，将室内空间向外释放。 China_龙泉, 中国Built_建成 This exhibition center is a part of constructions fulfill the service, education and management programs. The location was chosen at a sloped area near Gaojitou village, which is the south end of the entire historical site. 龙泉大窑国家考古遗址公园展示馆位于浙江省龙泉市高际头村，紧邻整个公园的核心遗址“枫洞岩窑址”。建筑的主要展陈内容是龙泉窑遗址的考古挖掘记录史料，龙泉窑陶瓷。同时，建筑位处古匣钵堆积处，室内的展陈与室外遗址的共存性与同时性，成为这个项目之核心。 The exhibition center is one of the major attractions in this large conservation area. It offers people not only well curated exhibitions with collections from recent discoveries but also leisure spaces where visitors could take a rest and enjoy surround environment. The center also serves as a major management center monitoring excavation site condition. The spatial organization of programs doesn’t follow a conventional order but creates a dialogue between spaces and landscapes. Each space is considered as an individual room, which is distributed along the hill so people could walk in between them as if there is no one single building but many. 屋顶采用了规整单一的长条形双坡屋顶的阵列，以此来还原考古挖掘保护棚的状态。场地的处理上采取了微分台地的策略，将建筑根据功能拆分成九个独立的盒子，每一个盒子占据一个标高依山而上，同时有两个展陈功能的盒子悬浮于空中，以此最大限度保留原有山体的坡地，使得自然地貌予以最大程度的保留，匣钵堆积也得以原始地展现在坡地处。悬浮的盒子内展示了包括考古挖掘日记等的史料， 同时透过下方的玻璃， 可以看见匣钵堆积体，此时遗址不光成为了一个可供观赏的对象，同时也成为了室内展陈的背景，文史资料与遗址实体二者在这个空间里合二为一。 This building creates an environment where people could walk through and see through from place to place without a specific order. The separation of each room offers people a sense of discover between man-made space and nature environment. The roof covers almost the entire site but it opens up with several courtyards. 大窑国家考古遗址公园游客中心Longquan, China_龙泉, ChinaBuilt_建成 Historically, Longquan celadon is a type of green-glazed Chinese ceramic, known as celadon or green ware, produced from about AD950-AD1550. This national Archaeological Park is built to preserve the Longquan historical kiln conservation sites in Dayao village. 大窑龙泉窑位于浙江丽水龙泉市小梅镇和查田镇，于2018年被评为国家考古遗址公园。国家考古遗址公园金村游客中心选址紧邻古码头，周围被群山和小溪包围，处于古窑址集中区，也是考古遗址公园的重要入口。 The exhibition and public transportation are two main programs required for this visitor center, which is going to be a place where people park their own cars and take local shuttles to different locations. The building is split into three disconnected rectangle-shape spaces, and a continuous zigzag wall associates those spaces with five courtyards in different scales into an integrated building. Each space is divided into two parts by the rammed earth wall in a diagonal angle, creating a sense of direction allowing people to gain connections with courtyards and landscape in a larger scale. 游客中心内容包含游客接待，候车以及展陈。建筑被拆分成三个互不相连的矩形的房子，并由一堵连续的折墙將不同尺度的五个院子与这三个房子构成了一个完整的建筑。折墙的构成来自于三组平行线的连接，这三组平行线也分别构成了三个矩形房子短边的墙体，并让他们面朝三个不同的方向。折墙既界定了建筑的整体边界，也斜向划分了每个房子的内部空间，让每个房间都有了方向，与相对应的庭院或者外部景观有了一一对应关系。 The key to complete three individual space along a continuous wall is to express structure in a selective manner. The edge columns are all embedded in the rammed earth, leaving the center column as an umbrella-shaped structure. The space is expressed by the actual revealed structure, meanwhile, the structure offers a misreading of each architectural elements in this building. 建筑在结构上把所有的边缘柱子都藏在夯土之中，只留下位于最中间的柱子。有选择性地表现结构，是通过真实的结构来表现空间，同时结构本身又是故意引导观众对于整个建筑部件的误读，而这层误读却是这个房子真正希望展现出来的墙和屋顶，与空间的关系。材料上使用夯土以将建筑融入整个村庄的肌理之中，同时也让夯土这种非承重性材料来强调墙体在空间中的围合和分割作用。 Collaboration: ZGDRI 上林湖越窑国家考古遗址公园越窑博物馆 Cixi, China_慈溪, 中国 Built_建成 Yue Ware Museum is located on the south bank of Shanglin lake, as the major exhibition space and research facility in this national Archaelogical Park. The form follows the topography of existing site, built a metaphorical connection with those dragon kilns, a traditional Chinese form of kiln used for thousands of years around this region. The geometrical slope roof is articulated to respond local architecture typology. The project is chosen to locate next to a wetland as a migration stop for birds, and next to a farmland which was owned by local village community. It is not only a space for research purpose, but also an education center for students, a resting area for tourists, and, most importantly, a community centre for rural residents. 该项目是松阳县的古村活化计划中建筑介入乡村的一环，选址位于黄公渡附近鸟类过冬的一片滩涂边，同时也紧临村民耕作的农田。这座建筑不仅是科考研究的基地，也是科普教育的中心，游客休息的一站更重要的是村民活动的中心。 The bamboo grove is a green wall cutting this site into two distinguish parts. Accordingly, only two facades are shown in this project, which connect farmland and wetland with different perspectives. The one facing farmland, a place where people live, becomes a house with bamboo grove as its back drop. A split gap in the middle calls for mysterious imagination towards the other side. The other one facing wetland, a place where birds stay, becomes a nest hidden in-between lush vegetation, to minimize human activities inside. 场地中的竹林如同一道绿墙一样将场地划分为两个截然不同的部分。建筑则呈现出了两个立面来面对农田和滩涂的景色。对向农田侧的，建筑呈现出竹林之下居所的状态，而另一面，建筑成为了竹林之上的巢穴，将人的活动影响降到最小。 Architects work with local craftsmen, using bamboo and materials on site as the formwork to cast concrete structure. The essential goal of 123+ growth center for young kids is not merely to impart knowledge, but adopt a methodology developed by Maria Montessori emphasizing that learning could be stimulated by the child’s individual experiences, and that children learned best through their own direct sensory experiences of their world. In order to achieve this, we are trying to make an abstract space by avoiding elements from our everyday life, but creating a new world where imagination is produced through children investigating the space. 该设计从空间类型的角度来讨论其如何成为一个有利于教育模式的积极影响。123+早教中心不只是在传授知识本身，更多的是让孩子们接受一种以玛利娅·蒙特梭利创导的学习方式，通过自身的体验来激发个体的学习潜能，儿童能从最直观的感受中理解世界。设计采用了抽象的空间形式来取代日常中的元素，儿童通过自己的探索和想象来建构出一个新的世界。 The 123+ growth center is located on the second floor of a newly built mall. The site challenge is that the public corridor splits the education space into two halves, meanwhile the center needs to be read and functioned as a united one. The strategy is to transfer that part of public corridor into a unique “viewing room” to the growth center: We use the same formal language to visually incorporate the public corridor to the growth center, creating multiple openings on both sides. All the position and size of the openings are carefully controlled so that people only see fragments of “the new world space” of the growth center, not the whole picture. By doing this, the function and sensation of this part of public corridor has changed. It is neither inside the “new world”, nor outside the “new world”, but somewhere in between. After demolishing all the additional vertical walls, columns and beams are maintained in its purest form, of which the texture are differentiated from ground and ceiling to emphasize their meaning as structure frames in the content. A nine-meter-long table penetrates the center area, creating a surface which is out of the conventional scale. Daily activities could perform seamlessly about this element.
